What?s going on here? My site started ten years ago this month and to celebrate I?m giving away something each weekday. Because I like you.
Today I'm thrilled to say that Juniper Moon Farm [1] has offered a Yarn CSA [2] for one lucky reader, the 2012 Spring Shearing worth $175 (that's some serious yarn). The Yarn CSA works like a farm CSA but instead you get a yield of the scrumptious yarn that is produced from the sheep and goats they lovingly raise. Juniper Moon Farm is amazing run by a small group of people who are dedicated to what they do and are fantastic about sharing what is going on with share holders, visitors, and readers of their blog. The farm was started by Susan, whom I've followed since she started (back then it was the Martha's Vineyard Fiber Farm, which you might remember if you've been reading my site long enough) and I'm astounded and so pleased to watch how it's grown. If you're not already I encourage you to read the blog [3], follow along as lambs are born in the spring on the LambCams [4], see what the farm dogs [5] are up to, you can attend shearing day [6] and even stay at the farm [7] for a week or long weekend. It's really amazing to watch the farm work all year and then find yarn at your door that reflects all of the care and attention that they put into it. I just want to hug the whole farm. The blog isn't just about the farm, I've loved all the Probably Something You Would Like [8] links posts, her recent pictures from Preakness [9], her famous world's greatest granola recipe [10] and how she went paper towel free on the whole farm [11] (it involves making a lot of your own cloth napkins [12], enough so you always have plenty of clean ones).

The other day we bought new bicycle helmets. I chose a Giro Indicator and I like it because it has a little adjustment wheel on the back so it fits snuggly but it's not headache inducing, and it's really well ventilated. Whenever I bake I end up making last minute trips to the grocery store for one ingredient or the other. This time my dough for the Jar of Stars [1] needed to rest over night and in order to get it made I needed to make a late night trip. While there this packaging for something else entirely caught my (tired) eye.
daily photo thing update: Today I'm finally posting a backlog of photos all at once and renaming them "almost daily photo" because I'm no good at keeping up with stuff and, as it turns out, I'm really not good at keeping up with stuff when I've put a set of artificial rules on myself. So I'll try to post a photo a day but if I'm busy or got nothing I won't. I mean, I don't want to start resenting my own self, right?

It's not well known but one of the best views in Seattle is from the Observation Deck of the Columbia Tower (one of our skyscrapers). To get there you take a bank of elevators up to one floor and transfer over to another bank of elevators and, hold on, what do you find as you're walking past? A Starbucks! A Starbucks with a pretty great view.
Above is one of the first views that greets you from the Observation Deck. I've circled the Space Needle in orange to show you how tiny it seems from the Columbia Tower. See? Cute.
Here is the proof of the Starbucks. It's free to get up to it, by the way.
To get to the observation deck you take the bank of elevators in the North Lobby to the 40th floor, pass by that Starbucks, then take those elevators to the 73rd floor. Follow the signs to the left. It's about $5 per person to get in and then you find yourself looking down at the Space Needle, which is pretty cool. The views are nearly 360 degrees and on a clear day you can see all the surroundings mountains. It's far cheaper than the Space Needle, involves a whole lot less waiting and zero souvenir photographs. (The Space Needle, though, does have glass elevators and a rotating restaurant.) It's one of my favorite places to bring visitors. And not just to show off that yes we really do have Starbucks everywhere.

S'mores made with peanut butter cups instead of the usual chocolate are pretty darn great. I forget where I first learned about this, I think it was a mention over on Pinterest [1].
Wanna hear the best thing I've learned in a while? Set the chocolate near the fire to melt while you're cooking your marshmallow to the the perfect puffy and golden brown state. That way the chocolate is nice and melty and the marshmallow has to do less work. This tip comes from Kyle [2], who is my new hero.

Flickr user AM RADIO created a whole new breed of camera when he hooked a 1917 Series III Kodak 127 to his Pentax K10D. He dubbed the result Frankensteintax, and it actually works!
The modern camera shoots through the antique lens, and results are pretty stunning.

How-To: Plush Alien Facehugger Pillow Pet
Instructables user, Kaisei13, made this embraceable Alien Facehugger Pillow Pet for her daughter.
My daughter is obsessed with the AvP game. She has beat it at least 20 times and loves to run around the house hissing and trying to run up walls like a Xenomorph. So for her 8th birthday I made her a plush Alien, and that lead to the idea for a facehugger pillow pet. But to make it a little more unique I added a egg shaped sleeping bag that could be rolled up and put in the tail.
Not bad for a human.

Ever wonder about the possibilities of designing your own stamps without having to carve anything? There is a simple way! You'll need one ordinary household object - silicone caulking. Yes, the one you use on your bathtub, sinks, and windows!
With no carving to do at all, this task cannot be simpler. And the result? Clear stamps just like ones you buy at the craft stores, but made in any design and pattern you want, in any size. Here, I made some stamps in the style of vintage botanical designs, for summer.

Minimal Easter Eggs [2] at Pickles. Very simple idea decorating eggs using white puffy paint, I love this.
Instructables [3] project but I like these because she uses Golden Syrup, which I'm having a bit of a crush on at the moment.
Wheat Grass at Design Mom. Good practical tips for growing wheat grass as a project for Spring.
Crepe Paper Surprise Carrots [4], at Martha Stewart. Just like surprise balls [5] and pretty darn cute.

Welcoming Two New Voices to CRAFT
We've recently added two new contributors to CRAFT, and I thought you might like to meet them:
Andrew Salomone is no stranger to these parts. We've featured his Self-Portrait Ski Mask, Bill Cosby Portrait in Jello Shots, and Nerds portraiture here, among others. Andrew is an artist and teacher based in New York City, and he'll be sharing interesting projects from the intersection of craft, art, and technology. You can also keep up with his personal work at his website.
Haley Pierson-Cox is a craft writer who is, co-incidentally enough, also based in NYC. She'll be sharing crafts across the spectrum here, and she recently had her first CRAFT how-to: Vegan Serving Dish and Utensil Tags. (And there's another fun project from her coming up next week!) Haley also blogs about crafts, cats, domestic bliss, and DIY goodness at The Zen of Making.

Learning Through Projects: an Interview with Kathreen Ricketson
You may know Kathreen Ricketson as the editor of the Australia-based craft blog Whipup. She's also been busy self-publishing Action Packs, which are digital collections of making and learning projects for kids. Action Packs incorporate a little crafting, a little cooking, some nature exploration, a little building and tinkering - and each issue is centered around just a few materials, so kids can explore them deeply.
I talked with Kathreen about how she arrived at this publishing idea, and how kids are responding to these kinds of learning projects.
